Hey Oddwalkia, sorry for the week of no blogging… busy times, but that’s May for you – end of the semester, graduations, ordinations, Mothers Day! Here though are a few pictures from the weekend (Orin’s weekend anyway). Later this week we plan to have up more stories and pictures from our trip to Oklahoma City! Well, we mean in addition to our “What is a Canuck?” video, which appears to be working – Hawks are up 3-2 and could wrapup the series tonight, getting Oddwalk off the hook regarding our friendly wager with Clayton Imoo. Well, we’ll see I guess, fat lady hasn’t sung just yet. Now, here are those pictures!

In Honor of Sts. Patrick and Joseph
In honor of these two holy men we celebrate today (Joseph) and two days ago (Patrick), here’s a rebroadcast of Orin singing two Oddwalk songs appropriate to the occasions:

Support Katie’s Habit!
Our dear friend, AI classmate, and neighbor Katie is joining a religious order this fall – yay religious life! To do so, however, she must first pay off all her debt and living expenses for her first year with the order. Read the flyer on the left – or visit her “Support Katie’s Habit” blog – for more info as to why that is, which order she plans to join, why, etc….
The amount of money to be raised is not insignificant – $17,000 or so. Please consider coming to a Bingo Fundraiser on April 17, 7pm, at St. Margaret of Scotland in St. Louis. Your favorite Oddwalk guys will be the emcees for the night, and there will be fabulous prizes, fun side games, and other exciting activities.
A “Support Katie’s Habit” (isn’t that a great name?) widget (thanks, muddys!) will hangout in our sidebar until the event, or until Katie has raised the necessary funds. At least if you can’t offer support financially, please keep Katie in prayer!

She quit when she realized she was erecting a golden calf
Actually, it’s a “Dumb Ox” – St. Thomas’ nickname, and the mascot of Aquinas Institute of Theology. Yes, I know, it strikes fear into me too. And the headline is true, she gave up after a while, and emailed this photo around to her friends with that explanation. It’s still sitting on my craft table, right behind me. Suggestions on possible future uses, anyone?

What *is* this?
Orin’s wife Erin has been working on a piñata for “Spirit Week” at Aquinas Institute of Theology. Make your guesses in the comments what this piñata hopes to grow up to be!

Not Exactly a Renewal of Vows
As part of studies at Aquinas Institute, those preparing for the priesthood have practice sessions for sacramental presiding, including weddings.
Today, Orin and Erin helped a couple of their friends by role-playing brides and grooms. In both instances, Erin was a good Catholic girl, but Orin was once an unbaptized-but-not-antagonistic-toward-Catholicism groom, and the other time a Jew, active in his college’s Hillel (the Jewish student center on most campuses).
Erin decided to get dressed up for the occasion – that is in fact her wedding dress from nearly 4 years ago (it fits better now than back then – way to go, honey!). Orin could only be persuaded to wear a bow tie.
No word yet on where the pretend honeymoon will be.

May 9 – Busy Day
Oddwalk, on May 9, began the day in front of 3,100 8th trough 12th graders from the Diocese of Orlando Florida at their Festival of Faith, celebrating 40 years as a diocese. Orin immediately following the set got on a plane back to St. Louis so he could graduate from Aquinas Institute of Theology with his Masters!

With One Final Click…
…of the “submit” button, Orin has finished his last class at Aquinas Institute of Theology. Yay! While happy and relieved, there is still the matter (in the Spring) of the major paper and the written and oral exit exams… But still! Classroom lectures, note-taking, etc. — things of the past!
When I started school, I posted my first small assignment as it tells a story I often tell when out Oddwalking. I won’t bother posting this last assignment, a take-home Church History final exam, unless anyone really wants to know what I think about the Christological divide between Cyril and Nestorius, the far-reaching effects of the Fourth Lateran Council, or whether or not Christianity can be described as a European religion.
Instead, let me share this parting thought with you, though we’ve already noted it’s not entirely true:
“No more pencils! No more books!
No more teacher’s dirty looks!”
Pictured is Fr. Dominic Holtz, OP, my Church History professor and academic adviser. He’s nicer and funnier than this picture would lead you to believe. Picture swiped from spirituallydelicious.com.
