Haiku Challenge, Part the 7th
FacebookTwitterLinkedInPinterestGoogle+EmailShare

by oddwalk — Categories: haiku challenge24 Comments

Spring is upon most of us, even if the weather seemingly has multiple-personality disorder, and with the coming of Spring we figured it was high time for another Oddwalk Haiku Challenge!  (Here’s a link to all the other past Haiku Challenges and related posts.)

The rules, as always, are pretty simple. Three lines of poetry, first line has 5 syllables, second line has 7, and the last line 5 again. Your haiku must begin with the last word of the most recent entry. Bonus points (though no one is keeping score anyway) if your Haiku is spring related – warming temps, Easter arriving, first communions, blooming flowers, cute little baby chicks, etc.  Leave your follow-up Haikus in the comments back at the Oddblog, those of you seeing this in your favorite rss reader, or via facebook, etc.

Here’s one to get us started:

Spring! Unless you are
In the southern hemisphere
where it is now Fall.

alrightnowWe’re off! It should be an outstanding NCYC this year! Our new CD will be there (we’ve even held one in our hands – it is indeed glorious). We’ve got several opportunities ahead to perform, minister, and meet some great folks, and just plain old have fun.

Will you be there too?

Make sure to stop by and see us (and other GIA/Crossgeneration folk) at booth 726 in the “Reign Forest” – we’ll be showing the new “Just Because” video, letting folks try on the new GCDC shirt, and lots more fun. Make sure too to see us perform:

— Oasis Stage: Thursday, 2:30-3:20 & Saturday, 1:00-1:50
— Friday, Warm-up for Fr. Tony Ricard, 3:15-3:45
— Saturday Comedy Club, 3:30-5:00

Follow us on Twitter for updates if you can’t be there! Hope to see lots of you there! Woo hoo! Christ Reigns!

Haiku Challenge VI

2001-02-13Hey everybody, it’s that time again!  Haiku Challenge Six has begun.

We know a lot of you may see this post after it gets imported elsewhere on the internet (especially facebook – you are our fan over there, aren’t you?), but please, if you’re going to play, let’s all play in the same place, the comments of this post (which is http://oddwalkministries.com/oddblog/?p=4541 if you’re not at the Oddblog right now).

Visit this link to view Haiku Challenge V from last year (and that post has links to all the Haiku Challenges we’ve had along the way).

The rules, again, are pretty simple.  Three lines of poetry, first line has 5 syllables, second line has 7, and the last line 5 again.  Your haiku must begin with the last word of the most recent entry.  No theme this time, just whatever happens to be on your mind (that’s pretty much how it went anyway, in the past).

Here’s a haiku to get us started.  Orin emailed Shannon a couple days ago, to ask him if he thought it was time for another Haiku Challenge again.  His response?

Challenge?  A challenge?!?!!
Bring on worthy opponents!
We shall do battle.

A fan of the blog, Clay Imoo, Director of the Youth Ministry Office, Archdiocese of Vancouver, sent us this message today:

I was intrigued by your haiku challenge and thus wanted to send this to you. I made it with my sons a couple of years ago for a contest sponsored by the Vancouver Canucks hockey team:

Of course, he was too humble to add that they won that particular contest! Great job, guys!

In honor of our “Jesus Is My Friend” cover video becoming our most watched video on YouTube, it’s time for Haiku Challenge V!

We haven’t done this in a while (here are rounds I, II, III , and IV)!

 The rules are simple:
A haiku is composed with three lines, of syllable-lengths 5-7-5. Add yours in the comments, below. Your haiku must begin with the last word of the one just before yours. You may play more than once, but not twice-in-a-row. Here’s one to get us going.

Jesus is my friend.
He is likely your friend too.
Won’t you tell us why?

Orin feels lazy.
No motivation, rather:
Procrastination.

That's it. That's the end. Go away.
