Words and Music by Shannon Cerneka
Hello, my name is Michael and I am just a child.
My father left a week ago while my mother stood and cried.
I know that she is lonely, sad confused and hurt.
She doesn’t know if she can bring me into this world.
And I say, “Mama, I beg you as long as I can cry,
please don’t stop my beating heart.”
You have to know I love you although I cannot say it.
Please give me the chance to tell you myself.
My Mama says she knows what’s best for her and I.
She says that it’s not fair to me to offer me this life.
But I’m already living and I do not want to die.
There’s too much life inside of me for one choice to deny.
Hello, my name is Michael and I have to say goodbye.
My mother made the choice to have me taken from this life.
One day I will meet her and I will sit her down,
and I’ll tell her what I never really could.
I’ll say, “Mama, I begged you as long as I could cry,
please don’t stop my beating heart.”
You have to know I loved you although I could not say it.
But I never had the chance to tell you myself.
