Most of you know that Shannon works as a youth ministry director in a parish full time. As is the case for parishes all over the country, his parish has started it’s fundraising efforts for their trip to the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Kansas City this fall.
Their first fundraiser is called NCYC Can’t Weight. Shannon, along with two other parishioners have all agreed to turn our impending weight loss into dollars for the trip. Here’s how it will work:
Each of them have pledged to lose a certain amount of weight between June 3rd and November 1st. Karen’s goal is 20 lbs., Patrick’s is 20 lbs., and Shannon’s is 50 lbs. Those wishing to donate can simply make a pledge for an individual’s weight loss, make a pledge for the whole group, or create some combination of pledges.
On November 1st, the amount of individual and total weight loss will be revealed. The amount pledged by each donor will then be collected If one of them loses more than their stated goal, the donor would only be responsible for the initially stated amount. For instance, if a donor pledges $1 per pound in Shannon’s column, and he loses 47 lbs., that donor will owe $47. If, however, Shannon loses 55 pounds in that time span, that donor who pledged $1 per pound, would only be expected to pay $50.
The pastor at Shannon’s parish, Msgr. Don Lammers, has agreed to certify the weight loss totals.
Make sense? If you’re interested in taking part, simply place your pledge in a comment on this post.
