Ten years ago, the Holy Father paid a pastoral visit to the St. Louis area, home of Shannon and Orin’s home, at the time, for less than a year. At the youth rally, one of the first events of his 30-hour visit, he was presented with a number of gifts, including a St. Louis Blues jersey and a hockey stick, which even in his frail condition he took a swing with. It was one of the humorous highlights of his visit.
Unlike today’s weather, the weather that day was in the 60’s and quite comfortable, thanks to the prayers (some say) of the local Pink Sisters.
After evening prayer and Mass at the Dome the next morning, the Pope left town. St. Louis’s Archbishop at the time, Justin Rigali, was soon moved to Philadelphia and elevated to Cardinal.
JP2, we love you! And continue to pray for us, with the whole of the communion of saints.
