Mercy at Work

Words and Music by Orin Johnson

Why do we pray, O Lord, to end starvation, we have more than the food we need.
Why do we pray, O Lord, to end our warring, you have shown us the way to peace.

And so we, we ask for strength, for determination,
to do your will without hesitation. Lord, O Lord,
Let us pray with our hands, let us pray with our feet,
Let your mercy turn into action.
Let us pray with our hands, let us pray with our feet,
Show your mercy at work today.

Why do we pray, O Lord, to end all illness, when your healing is close at hand.
Why do we pray, O Lord, in desperation, when your hope lives across our land.

Not just to pray but to do, not just to wish but become,
to become your presence now, right now!

Why do we pray, O Lord, to end injustice, when that power is ours to choose.
Why do we pray, O Lord, in supplication, when you’ve given us gifts to use.
